We've been working through some practice problems on improper and mixed numbers, as well as remembering about those reducing fractions.

Mapping

We mapped out today all of the work we've done on Fractions.

The Fractions Test was announced for next Wednesday.

We checked our homework as well.

Improper to Mixed and Vice Versa

Today we practiced more improper to mixed and mixed to improper. It gets better with more practice!

Thus, they have homework that they should stretch out between tonight and tomorrow night--on just this subject. It's due Wednesday.

Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions

We started out today by checking our homework. Then, we learned how to convert mixed numbers back into improper fractions and the kids got a chance to practice this and worked all the way until the end of the period.

Be on the lookout--our test on Fractions will be near the end of next week!

Improper Fractions

Today the kids got a chance to double-check their LCD/LCM sheets. If they didn't finish, they can see me and I'll get them a copy to use.

We also introduced the concept of improper fractions and converting them to mixed numbers.

They have a bit of homework on this as well (on the sheet they'll bring home it's #s 1-16 on the TOP).

Also, you may notice that your child's folder looks a bit ragged! They'll be getting new blue folders from me very soon!

Prove it!

Today the kids spend most of their time "proving" that they could find common denominators through pictures. They also got some practice on comparing fractions. (Some kids will have this for homework and it is due on Thursday.)

Monday Updates

Today, after our warm-up, we played around with these two websites (online tutorial-ish things on adding and comparing fractions), and then started creating an LCD (or LCM) chart. Have your kids share it with you--they need finish it for homework.
