The Math Brain Munching Bugs - MBMBs!!!
This will be a little confusing. :)
The kids received this on Wednesday because I knew today was the test and I wouldn't see them tomorrow. So they will probably have forgotten about this!
I have discovered in my years teaching math that there is a special kind of bug that attacks children over Spring Break--the Math Brain Munching Bugs. Reasonably skilled children have returned from Spring Break with sand in their flip-flops and nothing left in the math part of their brain! Ah!
So here is what I gave your students yesterday:
Dear Math 5 Students & Parents—
To keep the Math Brain Munching Bugs away, one problem and one problem only must be done a day.
Think of a doctor’s orders to take a certain amount of medicine at certain times of the day. The Munching Bugs are just as severe.
Children have been known to return from Spring Break with only an empty frame of what their minds used to be!
These problems, done once a day, with their work and steps totally and completely shown and written down should significantly diminish the Munching Bugs’ effect.
So, as you can see, a problem a day is the cure! I put a link below to the sheet I gave the kids and I'll be posting answers here from time to time over the break.
Thanks for your continued support and have a fabulous break! light and love, matthew
Test Today!
The kids started and finished taking their tests today!
Unfortunately, since we will not see each other tomorrow, they will not get them back until after break.
Look for another post VERY soon.

Test Tomorrow!
Today the kids got the opportunity to practice skills for their test tomorrow. See the previous posts for the skills sheet.
They may finish their review work tonight at home--all correct problems are worth one sticker :)
The FDP/Word Problem Test is tomorrow!

Decimals & Percents!!
I'm back and we've been busy!
Yesterday we read about Joseph Lagrange.
We worked again today on our fraction/decimal/percent chart.
Specifically, we learned to turn percents into decimals, and vice versa.
Look for homework (just a small chart) on this.
Tomorrow will be on fractions to decimals!!

Matthew's Away!
Hey all!
I'm going to be away Wednesday-Friday of this week and I wanted to let you know (1) there won't be any blog posts or phone call posts and (2) give you an idea of what your kiddos will be doing.

(We won't see each other on Wednesday because 2nd and 4th period blocks meet on that day.)
Thursday and Friday the kids will be continuing to practice word problems, and a variety of them at that! You may see one or two come home, but I've left quite a bit for them to practice during class!

Questions Please!
Today we took a look at the companion to some of our warm-ups--"Questions, Please!"
In these problems, the kids are given some information and a group of answers. Then THEY have to come up with the questions. Very fun, and very challenging! We'll be doing more of these soon.
We then moved on to learning more about converting fractions to decimals. We'll be doing a lot more of this next week--so don't let your kiddos worry! No homework!

Euler
Today's story was about Leonhard Euler--quite the man! Made tons of discoveries, wrote an immense amount... and was blind!
Ask your kids!
No HW.
